It is hard to come across a person who doesn’t enjoy music. Everyone loves music. That is in fact why, music has always been described as a universal language. With thousands of genres available to listen to, you can always pick a genre or two and enjoy listening to artists who specialize in a genre you prefer. Alternatively, you can sing…or start a music blog. It sounds easy but as you will find out, it is not really easy. To be successful and ensure that your music blogs stands out from other music blogs, you have to consider the following tips.
Choose a genre
This is of course, the first step you will have to take. Choose a genre, own it and start a blog about it. From then on, it will become easy to blog about new albums and singles on the genre you are blogging about. This may sound like an obvious tip or even a cliché tip. Its importance is however, indispensible.
Have a magnet factor
In other words, have something on your blog that other music blog don’t have. This could be something like one on one interviews with artists. It could also be something like updates on performances, ticket sales and basically events that revolve around the music genre you are blogging about. Be keen when it comes to one on one interviews though. If used well, they can steer your blog to greatness within a very short time. With that in mind, sharpen your interview skills and come up with a list of underground and established artists that you would like to interview on your blog.
Don’t underestimate the power of social media
Nearly all musicians today are on social media. That is certainly not strange. What is strange is how most music bloggers underestimate this fact. With each musician on social media, there is always a group in thousands of people as fans. Follow the musicians like everyone else is doing. Get to know what they update and compile their weekly activities into a blog post. Then go back to the fan pages of the musicians and post a link to your blog.
Consider giveaways
This works all the time. You may have to spend money on this tip though. Be keen on upcoming events then engage your audience in contests. Let the winner have the ticket to the event with his or her friends. That means buying a ticket for two and using it as the subject matter of your contest. Alternatively, you can print t-shirts and give them to your audience as gifts or as a marketing tool for your blog. You can also consider buying albums and giving them away.
Blog relevance
Avoid blogging like anyone else is. Be consistent with fresh content. Then make sure that whatever you blog is extremely relevant to your audience. Blog about music strictly. Avoid blogging music and movies unless a musician you are blogging on is a star in a movie or doubles up as musician and a movie star.
